I came into India Sweets & Spices for some spices and other ingredients for our continuously growing, relatively new passion - North Indian cuisine. I am impressed! What a great selection of spices, condiments, naan, and the produce is great too!
In fact, on our most recent visit we were pleasantly surprised to find that India S & S has ORGANIC ginger right now for $3.99/lb! Unbelievable!
I pay $3.99/lb or MORE at Von's, Albertson's, Gelsons or Trader Joe's for conventional (non-organic) ginger! This is Impressive. Plus the staff is warm, friendly and knowledgeable. So much nicer to shop here, save money and feel welcome too! I'll be back soon. Thank you!
I am so glad that I disregarded the haters' negative and critical reviews and came here with an open mind and heart. We were rewarded with wonderful foods and spice (both domestic and imported), kind and helpful staff and great prices!
If you see a product here that went past the "sell-by date" just bring it to the attention of the staff and they will cheerfully correct the issue. These hateful, mean-spirited jackasses who write nasty "reviews" because of one item going out of date (you can find this in any store - including Gelson's, etc.) are just stupid. If I had avoided this gem of a grocery store over these, so-called reviews it would have been my loss. -

Food was AMAZING. Very quick and easy to eat place. There's also a supermarket!
I recommend the dal and the samosas!
Also a big fan of the naan. It's unique and flatter than typical naan.
Location is also primo. -

This is a sprawling warehouse of a place with shelves stacked with Indian groceries and yet I can't seem to find items I frequently find in other Indian stores that are perhaps 1/20th its size (nod to Asia Foods in Culver City). On a recent trip I couldn't find Deep tamarind sauce (used to make chaat or as a condiment for samosas) only Maggi, couldn't find Indian yoghurt in the refrigerated section in a size suitable for anything less than restaurant scale, and couldn't find regular kidney beans packets in the size I needed. The owner pointed me to organic kidney beans. Sure, but that wasn't what I wanted. I wasn't able to find the interesting selection of millets (an unusual grain) that I find in small crammed stores elsewhere. They also don't have the best selection of hennas. What's an Indian lady who relies on two trusted henna brands to think? Things are oddly amiss for such a sprawling facility.
I found the cafe to be wanting. I got the south indian platter just to try it out. The dosa was passable, however the idli was very tough and non-edible, the vada was another coagulated chewy mess. The sambar was a joke of thin, runny, sloppy effort to create a lentil/vegetable stew. I couldn't even. Waste of calories because the taste was so dour. Also noted a rather off-handed manner in the lady serving up...
I come here only because I'm too far from the Indian shops down Venice Boulevard in the original Little India of the LA region from the 1970s....but this store, aside from its very pleasant owner who is solicitous to all his patrons, serves only as a neighborhood-proximity consolation and not my first choice. -

Craving Tea Rusks, exotic spices, or unique Indian items? This massive grocery store in Atwater Village has you covered! Who knew there were so many varieties of lentils, rice or incense? If you're not sure what something is, ask! All the employees are friendly and helpful. Sure, the place is rather shabby, but the prices are reasonable.
Hungry for some Indian fast food? Their affordable cafeteria has plenty of options.
Twice a year, in March and August, this venue generously provides a free community meal, which gives you a chance to try their food. Since it was the first time we were there, we tried almost everything they offered. Their Basmati rice is fantastic, their dal is healthy, and their potato and vegetable dish is good. They also dish up salad, naan, pickles, yogurt and rice pudding. Gather around a communal table with a diverse group of people who enjoy Indian food as much as you do. It's a sweet experience.
Spice up your world with a visit. -

Indian Fast Food (Vegetarian & Vegan only): Combo #2 ($6.49+tax) $7.11 includes 2 curry, rice, chapati (bake bread) or puri (fried bread), samosa (comes with sweet sauce), pickle, salad (just cabbage) and soda (they have unsweetened tea).
- Fast food. Its like tasty sloppy joe, Indian cuisine style? Yes, I like mushy food.
- Takes credit card.
- Free parking in the back.
- Cashier spoken broken English? She understood (no/allergy to dairy, which one is best). One section is for vegan, and the other side has dairy and is vegetarian = No meat.
- Attached with a grocery supply store in case you want to roam off that full belly after.
There isn't much Indian food in the Central/East side area. You really can't be prices -- I don't know of any Indian fast food around the area. Beats driving down to Artesia for Little India/legit good food.
This place is near Costco!!! For anyone hungry before or after their grocery/shopping trip there.
